Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet US President Barack Obama at the White House on Monday, a far cry from when Modi, head of India’s Gujarat state during a 2002 massacre, had his visa denied before a visit to the US in 2005.

Since his election in May, Hindu nationalist Modi’s relations with the United States have changed dramatically. The visit to Washington is to include dinner with Obama on Monday and a Oval Office meeting with US President on Tuesday, among other talks with top US officials.
